What is high speed photography? High speed photography is the art of capturing an image of something that happens too fast for the human eye to see in real time. A few examples of high speed photography include:
- A bullet passing through a beer can
- A hammer smashing a glass bottle
- A water droplet
The human eye can blink in about 300-400 milliseconds. Have you ever heard the phrase “in the blink of an eye” and wondered what can happen in the blink of an eye?
How Fast is Fast?
- The speed of sound at sea level and 70 F is 1,129 fps or 770 mph.
- A typical 22 caliber bullet travels at about 1,200 fps or 818 mph.
- A Winchester .270 bullet travels at about 2,821.86 fps or 1,924 mph.
- The Space Shuttle travels at about 25,666.66fps or 17,500 mph.
