Schleck Digs Deep

After dropping his chain during an attack on the Bales Pass, Andy Schleck desperately chases his challengers, Alberto Contador, Denis Menchov and Samuel Sanchez in the final kilometers of the climb. While he was less than 20 seconds down at the summit, he eventually finished 39 seconds behind the lead group, losing the yellow jersey by a mere eight seconds. Soon though, he would become the sentimental favorite of this year’s race.

This photo was captured by veteran Tour De France photographer James Startt. During the 2010 Tour De France, Startt captures the Contador-Schleck controversy, Lance’s last stand, and the grandeur of France’s Pyrenees in his latest Tour De France photo gallery.
